Open TT championships from today

The open table tennis championship for the Asok Mottoomul Melvani
Memorial Trophy will be worked off from today and will conclude on
December 31 at the Jagath Rajapaksha Indoor Stadium, Peradeniya, Kandy.
Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association (TTASL) organizes the championship,
which is considered as one of the major All Island ranking tournaments
in the local TT scene.
Altogether 17 events including open men’s and women’s singles,
doubles, open mixed doubles, masters’ men’s women’s singles (35-45 age
category), veterans’ men’s and women’s singles (over 45 age category),
boys’ and girls’ under -10, 12, 15 and 18 singles. The championship will
be conducted on a knock-out basis for under 10, 12, 15, open
men’s/women’s doubles, mixed doubles, masters men’s/women’s and
veterans’ events. The matches will start 7.30 am each day and the finals
will be played on December 31.
This championships is very important as the results will be
considered to select the national team to represent two international
championships in 2012. (Asian TT Championships - February 2012 in Hong
Kong and China World Team Championships in March / April 2012 in
Dortmund, Germany). The team will be selected after the National TT
Championships which will be held on January 21 and 22 at the Jagath
Rajapaksha, Indoor Stadium. The Junior National TT Championships will be
held on January 19 and 20 at the same venue.
