Full probe on - Police

The Police Department yesterday assured a full-scale investigation on the death of a British national at a holiday resort in Medilla in Tangalle on Saturday night. The Department has deployed finger print experts to assist the investigation process and five suspects, including Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Sampath Chandrapushpakumara Vidanapathirana, were arrested.

Gold chain thieves remanded

A suspect on a motorcycle who snatched a gold chain valued at nearly Rs 90,000 from a woman walking along Mathews Road, Jaffna on Monday was arrested by the Jaffna Police. He was produced before the Jaffna magistrate and remanded until January 3. Investigations are continuing.

Vessel rescued along with fishermen

The Navy rescued a multi-day fishing vessel with six Sri Lankan fishermen on board in the Southern seas south-west of Galle on December 27. The fishing vessel had stalled at mid-sea due to an engine failure and begun to drift perilously towards the deep seas, when the Navy moved in and secured the vessel and the lives of the crew on board.
