Full probe on - Police

The Police Department yesterday assured a full-scale investigation on
the death of a British national at a holiday resort in Medilla in
Tangalle on Saturday night.
The Department has deployed finger print experts to assist the
investigation process and five suspects, including Tangalle Pradeshiya
Sabha chairman Sampath Chandrapushpakumara Vidanapathirana, were
arrested.
According to Police spokesman, SP Ajith Rohana, special police teams
have been deployed to arrest other suspects who are absconding. SP
Rohana said that a group of CID officials are also assisting the police
in the investigation.
He said the police succeeded in finding the T 56 weapon used for the
murder at an abandon garden in Vitharandeniya.
SP Rohana added that all facts regarding the incident and the murder
were presented to the Magistrates Court.
He said that a Russian woman who sustained injuries has been referred
to the Judicial Medical Officer too. The Tangalle Magistrate remanded
two suspects including the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman till
January 6 and ordered to produce them for an identification parade.
