Substandard petrol issue:
Jan 6 deadline for compensation claims
The special committee appointed to pay compensation to vehicle owners
for damage caused to vehicles which used the recently imported
controversial stock of petrol has decided to conclude the entertainment
of documents and details from affected vehicle owners on January 6 next
year.
More than six months has elapsed since the committee had written to
each and every claimant requesting them to substantiate their claims by
providing relevant documents and other information and the committee
feels that the grace period given is more than enough said the Petroleum
Industries Ministry in a press release issued yesterday.
The release said that if the payment of compensation had been delayed
to some claimants it was due to several reasons such as failure to
provide information on time, submission of false information or
provision of such information in fragments in different stages or garage
bills and receipts being unclear. Under the first stage of the
compensation evaluation process documents relating to 2,196 claims have
been inspected and payments made in respect of 1,006 claims. Another 433
fraudulent claims have been rejected. Another 1,149 claims are due to be
processed under the second stage.
The CPC has allocated Rs 40 million for the payment of compensation
which the Corporation hopes to recover from the relevant supplier.
