Opp Leader's secretary to take over Karu's room

Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga yesterday requested the secretary to the Opposition Leader to take over the room allocated to Karu Jayasuriya in Parliament. John Amaratunga said, a room was allocated to him when he was the Deputy Leader of the UNP and the room had to be taken over as MP Karu Jayasuriya was no longer the Deputy Leader of the UNP. Unduwap Udanaya

The Unduwap Udanaya festival which commenced at the Galgoda Maha Viharaya, Panadura on December 10, will conclude with the staging of the Panadura Maha Perahera on December 30. The festival is held under the patronage of Viharadhipathi Ven Pothupitiye Pannasekera Thera.


Mobile service

A mobile service conducted by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Authority will be held today at 10 am at Gem Fair at Paththa Kade in China Fort, Beruwela.

Authority Chairman General Rohan Daluwatte and the officials of China Fort Gem and Jewellery Traders Association will participate.


Correction

Reference the Letter to the Editor titled 'Children and women's care centres' carried on the Letters to the Editor page on December 19, 2011, we have inadvertently and unintentionally carried a logo of CARE International as an illustration to the letter in question.

We wish to place on record that the logo of CARE International bears no relation whatsoever to the subject of the letter and was published along with it due to an oversight. We wish to apologize to CARE International for any embarrassment and discomfiture which may have been caused to it by this error on our part.

Special Catholic Half Hour today

A special Christmas edition of Catholic Half Hour will be broadcast over the English National Service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC 95.6 Mhz) today, December 21 at 6.30 pm. The programme featuring the Infancy Narratives of the birth of Jesus Christ according to the Gospels of Matthew an Luke will be presented by Catholic Broadcaster Trevor Ludowyke.


Opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of the ‘SBC Thassim reception hall at the National Council of YMMA Maligawatte will be held on December 23, 2011 at the YMMA premises at 4.00 p.m. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie will be the chief guest and A.H.M. Azwer MP will be the guest of honour. Colombo Municipal Councillors Riza Zarook and M.H.M. Naufer will also be participated. It will be held under the patronage of National President of the YMMA M.M. Mohamed.


Christmas Carol service

The carol service by the choir of St. Michael and All Angels, Polwatte, Colombo 3 will be held in the church, in keeping with tradition, on Christmas Eve, at 6 p.m. The service will commence with the singing of the processional hymn “Once in Royal David’s City”.

The readings are from the Bible and tell the Christmas Story. The concluding lesson will be from St. John’s Gospel, unfolding the great mystery of the incarnation.

The Choir will sing modern and traditional Christmas Carols arranged by Sir David Willcocks and John Rutter among others. The service will be interspersed with popular carols for choir and congregation.

The service will conclude with the recessional hymn ‘O Come all ye faithful” with the blessing of the crib and the offering of gifts by the children.
