Navy rescues Indian fishermen


Naval personnel attached to SLNS Wasaba of the Northern Naval Command rescued 12 Indian fishermen when their trawlers ran aground in the seas off Delft island on Monday. Meanwhile, Naval personnel attached to SLNS Elara of the same command rescued six Indian fishermen in a trawler run aground in the seas off Analative Island on the same day.

Two UNP Provincial Councillors, eight others remanded


UNP Provincial Councillors Maithri Guneratne, Shiral Laktilake together with eight others were yesterday remanded on the orders of Nugegoda Magistrate Rohana Anura Kumara Herath for allegedly conducting themselves in an unruly manner and inciting attacks on Sirikotha resulting in damage to a vehicle of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during Monday’s leadership and party post election.

Sirikotha attack:

Ranil calls for fair probe


Opposition Leader and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday requested the government, in Parliament, to hold an independent and fair investigation into the attack on the UNP headquarters, ‘Sirikotha’ on Monday. The Opposition Leader also requested to find out if the monies of foreign NGOs have been utilized to manipulate this attack on the Sirikotha.
