Deputy Speaker orders inquiry into privilege matter

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody yesterday in Parliament directed the Privilege Committee to conduct an inquiry on the privilege matter raised by UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara.

Raising a privilege matter Range Bandara MP stated that he was attacked in the lobby of Parliament by a member when he was leaving the chamber after making his opening speech at the Committee Stage debate of the Appropriation Bill when the finance heads of the Defence and Urban Development Ministry were taken up on Monday. He stated that he suffered minor injuries from this clash which occurred in the presence of UNP MPs Hareen Fernando and Wasantha Aluwihare.

The Deputy Speaker directed the matter to the Privilege Committee to be investigated.
