Colombo Night Races boost city image
City Hotels benefited immensely with the hosting of the inaugural
night races held last Saturday in Colombo.
Nearly 200 additional rooms were sold in view of the event, bringing
unexpected revenue to the hotels. In addition, the Food and Beverage
sector too received a boost. An official from the Colombo Hilton said
that they received expected returns while Colombo Continental was of the
view that the event proved to be a success.
Galadari Manager, Samapath Siriwaradane said that the event was very
good for the country. "It could have been more aggressively marketed
bringing in more foreign guests," he said. Advertisements could have
been placed in newspapers in South India and the Maldives and they would
have been more than pleased to have witnessed the races, which would
have roped in more revenue for them and also to other hotels, as they
would have gone out of Colombo as well. "We sold 58 rooms but they were
all to Sri Lankans," he said. Meanwhile Emerging Computer manufacturer
EZY, who created ripples in the computer industry by revolutionizing the
general perception of the everyday PC with their innovative range of
computers hosted their customers and sponsors at the recently held
