Upali and Sumith in contest for top post
Thushan Jayasuriya and Prince Gunasekara
Former Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee chairman Upali Dharmadasa
will be contested by Baduraliya Sports Club president Sumith Perera for
the presidency of Sri Lanka Cricket at the Annual General Meeting which
will be held on January 3, 2012.
Nominations closed yesterday at 12 noon.Only the post of the
treasurer was elected uncontested while there will be contests for all
other posts at the AGM. Saracens Sports Club 's Nusky Mohomed was
elected uncontested as Treasurer when his rival Panadura SC's Eastman
Narangoda withdrew his nomination at the eleventh hour.
Colombo District MP Thilanga Sumathipala decided not to contest for
the Presidency of SLC after discussion with Sports Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage. But he said that he will give his fullest support for the
development of Sri Lanka Cricket in the future.
There will be three cornered tussle for the Secretary's post between
former secretary of the Interim Committee Nishantha Ranathunga, Michael
de Zoysa and Ravin Wickramaratne.SSC's Michael de Zoysa will also be
contesting for the Vice Presidency and deputy treasurer's post.
Five people have come forward to contest for the vice president's
post.
They are Jayantha Paranathala (BRC), Mohan de Silva (SSC), Michael de
Zoysa (SSC) , Asanga Seneviratne(CCC) and K.Mathivanan (Colts).
The Deputy Treasurer's post will also be contested by five
persons.Ajith Pasqual(CCC), Michael de Zoysa(SSC), Nihal
Lewke(Anuradhapura D.C.A.), Gihan Weerasinghe (Ratnapura D.C.A.) and
Susantha Fernando (Kaluthara D.C.A.).
The duo who are contesting for the Assistant Secretary's post are
Bloomfield's Hirantha Perera and Kurunegala District's D.C.A's Irwin
Jayawardena.
There will be 147 votes cast from 85 Sports Clubs at the AGM. |
