Chinthana WASALA
Sri Lanka’s premier international racing sensation Dilantha
Malagamuwa showed how the speed thrills, when he drove his Porche
Carerra to mesmerize the massive crowed at the inaugural Colombo Night
Race on Sunday morning.
Malagamuwa displayed superb driving skills over some of the overseas
drivers who came from India and Malaysia in both GT3/GT4 class races.
Surprisingly, Malagamuwa lapped the super fast Lamborghini and two
Lotus cars which were also in contest in the same race.
The GT4 car event was the one that everyone had their eyes on.
Besides that, the SL-GT cars 3500cc event which saw the most number
of drivers taking part, was the other highlight. Pasindu Peiris won the
race, the last event of the Colombo Night Race, against some stiff
opposition from Ashan Silva who was ahead of him till the ninth lap.
Gayan Sandaruwan, the star on gravel, proved that he can make an
impact on tarmac too, finishing second in the Super Motard upto 250cc
event. Yohan Ranjith Silva won the event. Shriyan Samuel won the 250 CC
open event of motor cycles, ahead of the two stars in the category, Ned
Daniel and Maduranga Kaldera.
In the formula III event, Gayan Ranathunga and Ashan Silva maintained
their supremacy, claiming a win each. Interestingly, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa’s son Rohitha Rajapaksa took part in the SLH 1600 CC event,
after recovering from an accident which he faced during the previous
day’s trials.
Complete results of the 2011 Colombo Night Race will appear on this
week’s Sports Weekly. |
