Vault too heavy, thieves leave it near bank entrance

Thieves who entered a bank along the Ingiriya - Colombo main road yesterday morning, had left the vault near the bank's entrance when they realized it was too heavy. They had however taken a smaller safe.

Bank sources said that there were no valuables in the vault that was stolen, adding it had only documents.

A broken rope and tyre marks were visible at the bank's entrance. The thieves had disconnected telephone connections power supply and siren before breaking into the bank, Police said.

The Crime Investigation Unit, Panadura, and Finger Print Register Department, Colombo are investigating the incident.

Ingiriya Police are investigating.
