Early adjournment of Parliament

Parliament sittings were adjourned at 3.30 pm yesterday as Opposition members were not present in the House to join the committee stage debate on the Appropriation Bill. Only one member of the UNP joined the committee stage debate on the finance heads of the Defence and Urban Development Ministry.

UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara commenced the debate on behalf of the Opposition and was the only member who spoke on its behalf. Although the Chair called the names of UNP MPs Harin Fernando, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Jayalath Jayawardena, Dunesh Gankanda and Vijayakala Maheshwaran, no one was present in the House.

Much of the time of the debate was allotted for the Opposition.
