Wildlife officials to trap three dangerous jumbos

Wildlife officials are making arrangements to either trap or to drive away the three wild elephants haunting in Palagala and Ulukkulama areas.

The elephants invading the villages in Palagala and the suburb has so far killed three persons.

“Residents in Palagala Hettiyagama and Mirihanpitigama live with fear due to these wild jumbo menance. A number of requests have been made to the wildlife officials and no satisfactory response has been had so far.

Also though it was agreed some months back to erect a electrified fence via Palagala, it has to be realized yet.” Palagala Divisional Secretary P S Jayatilake told the Daily News.

In the meantime, the drive away operations began two months back to drive away a heard of wild elephants roaming about in Talawa Ulukkulama and Srawasthipura areas have not been completed.
