Biscuits from vegetables, fruits
M. Nelson Piyaratne, Kataragama group corr.
A resident of Kataragama has invented a method of producing biscuits
using only vegetables and fruits without flour.
He had been conducting experiments since 1995, to find a method to
produce biscuits using only vegetables and fruits.
He said that nowhere in the world have biscuits been produced without
flour and he was determined to make a biscuit without using flour. Today
out of his arduous experiments he has been able to produce biscuits
using Varaka (ripe jak fruit), Dhel (Bread fruit), beans, pumpkins and
carrots. This correspondent had a chance to relish them and they were
really delicious and bore the taste of the ingredients used. They look
like normal biscuits but the only difference is their taste which is
indigenous. He said that at various economic centres and even in our
home gardens some vegetables and fruits are wasted due to the inability
of selling them or some other reasons and making biscuits from these
excess vegetables or fruit is a great boon, saving a lot of money for
the farmer and thereby to the country. It is an added advantage as there
will not be a garbage problem as all the excess vegetables and fruits
could be utilized, he said.
Once this invention was implemented on a large-scale the government
can reduce the import of wheat flour and save a big amount of foreign
exchange.
These biscuits will solve the problem of the people who consume
artificial instant food and fall prey to undiagnosed diseases.
These biscuits have only natural ingredients and there is no harm for
the body. |
