Special pinkama to mark the Buddha's arrival

A special pinkama will be held at the Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya
on January 7, 2012 to mark the arrival of the the Buddha at the venue
2600 years ago.
The main item is an all night pirith ceremony.
There will also be an exposition of Sacred Relics from January 8 to
10, 2012. A motorcade of 100 vehicles bringing devotees will arrive at
Mahiyanganaya in the evening. It will leave the Sambodhi Viharaya in
Colombo.
Eight vehicles carrying Bhikkus chanting pirith will arive at
Mahiyanganaya, each following the route from Anuradhapura, Ampara,
Badulla, Kandy, Matale, Moneragala, Nuwara Eliya and Hambantota being
another attraction there. Meanwhile, a Sanghika dana will be held at the
temple for 150 bhikkus. Fifty head of cattle destined for slaughter will
also be freed.
