Nena Guna Waduma Sisu Diriya National Programme was inaugurated
recently at the Hindu College, Kilinochchi to celebrate the World
Children's Day.
This was a training programme for attitudinal reestablishment of
schoolchildren for social development. More than 550 students and 100
teachers from 14 schools in Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu took the
advantage from this four-day programme. Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya
national programme was an idea of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to help
the displaced students of Kabitigollawa bomb attack in 2006.
Then it was spread to students in GCE O/L and A/L classes from war
affected and remote areas.
The main aim was to reduce the repression occurred by the terrorism,
and to empower them for their studies.
Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya national programme is the first
programme organized by The Office of Director of Social Development
Affairs to the President on their 5th anniversary. The inaugural day was
initiated with the participation of the Director of Social Development
Affairs to the President, Nandana Wijesinghe, the Deputy Inspector
General of Kilinochchi, N D Daluwatte, Senior Superintendent of Police
of Kilinochchi, Saliya De Silva, Zonal Directors of Education and
principals in Kilinochchi. All the participants got the chance to listen
to a valuable lecture on 'Productivity' by Productivity Advisor, Lal
Fonseka.
The second day of the programm e was brightened from many cultural
activities and the students got the chance to get blessings from a
special Saraswathi Poojawa held at Kilinochchi Hindu College. Lectures
on 'Personality Development and Psychology' by Doctor A Kotalawala and
Change by Shabir M Hashim were conducted successfully. On the third day
of the programme there was a lecture by Hashim and participants got the
chance to engage in many individual and group activities. On the final
day of the programme, Sanath Gamage conducted a lecture on 'Motivation'.
The closing ceremony of the Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya national
programme was held with the participation of Minister S M Chandrasena,
the Director of Social Development Affairs to the President, Nandana
Wijesinghe, Senior Superintendent of Police of Kilinochchi, Saliya De
Silva, Zonal Educational Directors and other distinguished people.
Certificates and Prize giving for the participants was also held on the
same day.
wWith the aim of enhancing the personality of students from war
affected areas; students from Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Jaffna, Mannar,
Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa were
benefited through this Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya project so far.
