SL Armoured Corps marks 56th birthday
Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), marked its 56th anniversary
yesterday with a series of military and related ceremonies.
The highlight of the main ceremony at the SLAC Regimental
Headquarters at Rock House, included a military salute accorded to the
Colonel Commandant of the SLAC Regiment, Army Commander Lieutenant
General Jagath Jayasuriya.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, who has the chief guest inspected the
Guard Turnout, presented in his honour and was afterwards ushered to the
special dais to receive the Guard of Honour. He, in the company of the
parade commander, observed the parade.
The second phase of the ceremony commenced after observing a minute's
silence in honour of fallen SLAC war heroes. Lieutenant General
Jayasuriya awarded trophies to those who excelled in sports, and did
well in other areas of SLAC administrative responsibilities. The
Commander later addressed the troops.
Colours were also presented to SLAC sportsmen. Children of war heroes
also received tributes for their excellence in sports.
Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) President Manjulika Jayasuriya and
SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson, awarded scholarships to children of
SLAC war heroes. She also donated two wheel-chairs to differently able
war heroes. |
