ISMM conducts fourth CPD/CPE Programme:

'Social Media - The next wave'

Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) which leads the supply chain professionals in the country organized another evening seminar (Continuous Professional Development / Continuous Professional Education session) for its members and public recently at OPA Auditorium.

Guest speaker, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd General Manager, Corporate Planning and Marketing Janaka Jayalath addressing the members of ISMM under the theme 'Social media - The next wave' explained the current trends and how the world moves towards the new technology.

He stressed the point that Sri Lanka too is capable of providing such facilities.

He said "It is a pity that although we talk about our high literacy rate, it is not very high when compared with other developed countries mainly due to the international communication barriers such as very poor knowledge of English in the majority population."

The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) President Danesha Perera explained the reason for selecting such a valuable topic.

He elaborated the revolution from machine age, information age to knowledge age. Further he elaborated the transition of the newspaper to magazines, radio, TV to Internet.

Perera said by looking at certain published research data of Social Media in the internet shows that countries such as Taiwan and China moved to Internet browsing very fast and also shows time spent in the Internet is more when compared with the countries that are under slow progress in development.
