HNB crowned Mercantile shuttle champs

The strong HNB team emerged overall winners of the 29th Mercantile Badminton Championship after beating a tough John Keells team. HNB collected 129 points while John Keels were just behind with 115 points while Nations Trust Bank won the third place with 100 points.

The Men’s A division was won by Sampath Bank led by National player Hasith Chanaka who was also adjudged the best player in the Men’s division. The tournament which spanned for nine days was held at the S. Thomas’ College sports complex while a total of 55 companies took part and a massive number of 190 teams were seen on action.

This was one of the biggest Mercantile sports fiestas for the year as over 1,200 players participated with over 1,400 matches being played.

Managing Director of Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Gerald de Saram graced the occasion as the chief guest while ‘Dulux’ sponsored the event for the 14th occasion.

Third place: Nations Trust Bank PLC
