Legislator Namal Rajapaksa MP takes oaths as Attorney at Law today
Dr. Telli C Rajaratnam
Legislator Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament will take oaths
today before the Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike and two other Judges
of the Supreme Court today. President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady
Shiranthi Rajapaksa proud parents of Namal will witness the ceremony in
the Supreme Court.
Namal Rajapaksa's achievements as a youth leader, Legislator and
friend of the people have no limitations.
Day and Night a young man went from district to district, day by day
across the miles with knapsack on his back with Literature about the
President of this country. He stopped at every corner touched the hearts
of those around him with his polite speeches which he expressed with
dignity and decorum.

Namal
Rajapaksa, MP |
He had the aristocratic mannerism, gentle disposition and
incomparable courage to fulfill his task. He went on alone with a small
team and through the miles tens, hundreds and thousands joined him in
the arduous task of campaign. They called themselves ‘Tharunyanta
Hetak’. They left no stone unturned. This young man had a determination
to work for the President and present a case before the people.
Namal Rajapaksa obtained the highest number of votes in his
electorate. His credentials are far mightier than any other Member of
Parliament. His credentials at his age now is far greater than any Sri
Lankan politician. Suffice it to say, that all alone with his team in
‘Tharunyanta Hetak’ he was the most effective campaigner for President
Mahinda Rajapaksa and was the greatest advocate for the President.
Efficiency
His style is unique and incomparable. If Sri Lanka has to develop at
a rapid pace then Namal Rajapaksa and his team of young parliamentarians
should be in the forefront of the government.
Part of the problem lies in an excessively hierarchical political
tradition that treats a supine loyalty as the ultimate virtue. But when
patronage is elevated to an organizing principle, dynamism and
innovation are the likely casualties. Unsurprisingly, in this
environment, there is a latent hostility to newcomers.
Very few political grandees have had the grace and dignity to
withdraw voluntarily to the backbenches once their prime is over.
Retirement does not feature in their political lexicon. Most of them are
afflicted by a severe case of the Duracell syndrome: like the well-known
battery they firmly believe in going on and on. While this approach
might suit an individual's self-interest it is open to doubt whether
this serves the wider national interest.
No government can survive without seasoned voices. But what is
evidently missing is a balance between youth and experience. Nor does
any party show signs of wanting to correct its composition and
leadership.
Sri Lanka's electoral make-up will change with Namal Rajapaksa - the
absence of young politicians on the front benches is simply incredible.
Unlike the private sector which has evolved considerably, the political
culture shows little sign of embracing a necessary change with young
parliamentarians with exceptional skills like that of Namal Rajapaksa.
With the entry into Parliament and the portals of the Supreme Court,
Namal Rajapaksa will with one sweep change the entire political culture
into an effective and energetic political climate. This is the doctrine
of Namal Rajapaksa.
Some believe there is nothing one man or one woman can do against the
enormous array of the world's ills. Yet many of the world's great
movements of thoughts and action have flowed from the work of a single
man. A young monk began the Protestant reformation, a young General
extended an empire from Macedonia to the borders of the earth and a
young woman reclaimed the territory of France.
It was a young Italian explorer who discovered the New World and 32
years old Thomas Jefferson who proclaimed that all men are created
equal. These men moved the world...few have the greatness to bend
history itself - it is from numerous diverse acts of courage and belief
that human history is shaped.
Namal Rajapakse has done well and more at his age and has achieved
more, and the writer believes that he should be given wider
responsibilities in the affairs of the government in the front bench.
He has the charisma of a Leader and he is a Leader by his own right.
It is only Namal who can unite the youth from South, North, East and
West. This would be the groundnorm for eternal peace. His would be the
grundnorm for eternal peace.
Namal Rajapaksa is striving to prepare our youth for the challenges
of life, leadership and statesmanship, through mentoring, simulations,
field experience and the classics.
He has stated that he is dedicated to serving and supporting youth
with a focus on God, family and country. He respects a multi-ethnic
group, respecting each community.
Global forces
Namal Rajapakse says, “Mankind has entered a phase of development
where distance, time and space been subjected to immense suppression.
Global forces today collectively offer us new challenges, but they are
pregnant with opportunities. My vision is based on gearing for these new
challenges, in the light of what it means for Sri Lankans and human kind
in general.
“I believe in such conditions racial, ethnic, religious differences
needs to be transgressed. My vision is one of general progress of
humanity. It is vital that we aspire for a common national identity and
embrace the best global integration can offer while galvanizing our
cultural heritage. I strongly believe youth as an age category and youth
as a spirit regardless of physical wear and tear is the catalyst for
progress.
“A leader needs to be a visionary par excellence, but every vision
yearns for significant achievements. My mission is guided by a set of
standards providing a modus operandi focusing on objectives emerging
from my vision. These are values envisaged in my thinking that I
perceive is timely to be put into motion. They may sound simple but they
represent my commitment to humanity, social forces and environment.
I think this is fueled by the energy in a youths’ heart. I will work
towards building a political identity for my people which cannot be
violated by petty ethnic, racial or religious traits I will reach out to
the world and work within a framework of international solidarity. Youth
represents the future of my society, my country and the world in
general; I will work towards the betterment, empowerment of youth.”
Namal Rajapaksa is striving to prepare our youth for the challenges
of life, leadership and statesmanship, through mentoring, simulations,
field experience and the classics.
A leader would always show a much practical approach towards any
problem rather than showing a simple approach and at the same time try
and exhibit patience with self-belief and all the courage in the world
to accept his mistakes. Believe me not much people out there ever have
the courage to accept their own mistakes. A leader is a person who
always needs to communicate with his people. So a leader should have an
excellent communication skill. They should in fact be able to link their
wires with their people so that everyone feels more comfortable in
expressing themselves in front of a leader. It is very important that a
leader develops heart-to-heart relationship with all of his people.
A leader is a person who is a visionary. He should be able to see and
understand the future so that it becomes an easy task to take decisions.
Visionary is a quality that is usually considered as insane in its early
stages but later on has the power to change the face of history. A
leader should always be capable enough to take any amount of risk as
gain comes with risk.
A leader should in fact not be confined to a lying shell in a
comfortable corner. Or in other words he should simply not be satisfied
with whatever he has achieved, as our achievements are already history.
Leader should constantly motivate himself as it would help a true
leader to synchronize with the present time. It will also prepare him to
face new challenges. A leader should always be honest to himself as well
as to his people.
Every one has a tremendous faith in our leaders; moreover it is a
common saying that preaching is easier as compared to practicing. A
leader should be a man of action. So a leader is one who shows
consistency not to change his stance but the stance of the masses. With
the skills of a Lawyer he would be the finest Leaders in time to come.
