Thailand celebrates National Day
There is an increase in the volume of our two way trade, of which
last year registered a volume of US$ 484.5 million, while the volume of
our two way trade during the first ten months of this year amounted to
US$ 485.7 million, thereby reflecting a healthy growth of our trade.
In the area of investment, the dawn of peace and the ongoing
development throughout this country including the North and the East are
expected to have a further positive impact on the Thai investment in Sri
Lanka, since, over the past two years, more Thai investors have
displayed interest in the investment in this country and more business
groups have paid visits to Sri Lanka to look for investment
opportunities, said Charg, d' Affaires, Royal Thai Embassy Narong
Yudhakajkumthorn, on the occasion of the 84th Birthday Anniversary of
His Majesty the King of Thailand and the National Day of Thailand on
recently.
From the exchange of visits between our two countries at the
government level and other economic aspects, the official statistics
reveal that the number of Thai tourists to Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan
tourists to Thailand continued to increase in recent years signifying
the warm relations between our two countries.
The number of Thai people who visited Sri Lanka during the first ten
months of this year stood at over 5,000, an increase of 84 percent,
compared with the same period of last year amounted 2,700. Strengthening
the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
His Majesty is widely known as one of the hardest-working monarchs on
earth and has devoted himself to the benefit and happiness of his
people. All Thais know and appreciate his dedication. He is now the
longest-reigning monarch in the world.
On this auspicious occasion, I am pleased that Thailand and Sri Lanka
continue to enjoy friendly and substantive relations. Exchanging
official visits by both countries continue to result in more interaction
between our two sides and gives more optimism for further enhancement of
our relationship in the areas that will benefit our two countries. From
bilateral relationship at the government level, it should be noted that
there were assistance between our two countries during the flood crisis.
This year the Thai government presented a cheque of US$ 100,000 as
contribution to Sri Lanka's rehabilitation efforts following the floods.
Last month the Sri Lankan government donated over US$ 50,000 worth of
aid to Thailand as flood relief. I would like to take this opportunity
to express our sincere thanks to the Sri Lankan government.
