New Chief Government Valuer
Deputy Chief Valuer A.A.M. Fathihu will assume duties as the Chief
Valuer of the Government Valuation Department today. He will be the 9th
Sri Lankan Chief Valuer. He has been appointed to the post with effect
from December 13 by the Cabinet.
Fathihu had his primary education in Gandara Al-Azhar Vidyalaya, and
secondary education in Weligama Arafa National College. He was the
undergraduate of the first batch of Estate Management and Valuation
degree course, which was introduced first time by the Colombo University
in 1972.
He joined the Government Valuation Department in 1977 as an Assistant
Valuer and served in various parts of the country as a Senior Assistant
Valuer from 1992 and as a Deputy Chief Valuer from 2006 and as an Acting
Additional Chief Valuer since 2011 August.
Body found
A body was found by the Sigiriya Police in the Husulu-canal.
The family members of the deceased in the area said that he was
missing since last Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Yapa Senaviratna, 50, a father of
three.

Buddhist discussion
“The next Buddhist panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be held
on Sunday, December 18th at 10 am. at its Borella building on “Turning
the mind inwards”. The panelists are Prof Raja de Alwis, former Prof of
Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, and Dr Basil de Silva, a
Buddhist Scholar with Rajah Kuruppu, as moderator. All are welcome”.
Bodhi pooja
The JICA Alumni Association of Sri Lanka will conduct a bodhi pooja
and pirith chanting at the Gangaramaya, Hunupitiya, Colombo 2 on
December 23, 2011 commencing 5.30 pm to invoke blessings on Japanese
Emperor Akihito, on his 78th Birthday.
AGM
The sixth Annual General Meeting of the Past Teachers’ Association of
Sri Sumangala College, Panadura will be held on Sunday, December 18,
2011 at Navro Beach Resort, Panadura. The meeting will commence at 8.30
am.
Graduateship programme
The four year Graduateship Programme of the Institute of Chemistry
Ceylon will take in the 34th batch of students and inaugurate a new
programme on January 7th 2012.

Annual pinkama
The annual pinkama organized by the Matara Bodhi Arakshaka Sabha to
usher in the New Year and invoke blessings on the President, government,
country and the people will be held this year too.
It will include an all night pirith ceremony at the Matara Bodhi
premises on December 31 and a sanghika dana to 50 members of the sangha
the following morning (Jan 1).
Gold awards ceremony
The international youth gold awards ceremony was held at Cinnamon
Grand Hotel Colombo last Sunday.
Youth Affairs Ministry Secretary S S Hevapathirana, NYSC Chairman,
Lalith Pium Perera, and NYAA Chairman Senerath Kahandaliyanage also
graced the ceremony.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Association APR Office
and National Youth Award Authority, Sri Lanka have organized
Asia-Pacific Regional Adult Leaders Training Programme series, 1st time
in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Youth Affairs Ministry.
APR Director Sue Walker, Head of Operation (UK office), Major Tim
Smith, APR Training Head Rob Oliphant, and Director Training NYAA, Sri
Lanka Saman Amarasinghe are the Operational Team Leaders of the event
series.
The major event for gold award holders' workshop with the theme
session on awareness of 'Peter Cruddas Innovative Projects' by Indian
Award Leader Dinesh Gajendra, will be held on December 14, from 8 am to
3 pm at the RCU auditorium of Royal College, in association with Gold
Award Holder's Association (GAHA) Sri Lanka. The Gold event is open to a
new batch of Gold Award holders, Youth Award Alumni and any youth
(16-23) who wish to join Gold Award programme with NYAA.
