The government has allocated a large portion of budgetary funds for
urban development projects and programmes, over that of previous
budgets, said Urban Development Authority (UDA) chairman Janaka
Kurukulasuriya.
“Therefore, all measures are in place to initiate the proposed
countrywide development projects. Development plans for the Jaffna,
Kataragama and Dambulla districts which have been drawn up, will begin
early next year, he added.
Under the first phase of the Jaffna district development programme,
the tank system will be renovated to control rainwater flow and develop
the city,” he said.
An industrial park will be established in Sella Kataragama with
stalls for pavement hawkers.
All measures are in place to promptly issue licences which are
essential to launch development programmes,” the chairman said. |
