Over 500,000 sit O-Ls

Over 500,000 candidates are sitting the GCE Ordinary Level examination which began at 3,920 centres yesterday. The first paper was religion.

According to Examinations Department sources, 385,000 school candidates and 146,000 private candidates are sitting the examination this year. Department officials said that they have issued guidelines and instructions to examination centre heads to prevent irregularities.

Meanwhile, 62 former LTTE cadres, rehabilitated by the government, sat the examination at Tamil Central College in Vavuniya yesterday.

Meanwhile, Rehabilitation Ministry Secretary A Dissanayake told the Daily News that 77 students at rehabilitation centres and over 20 individuals at Welikada prison are sitting O/L examination this year.

The examination ends on December 21.
