KOICA helps improvement of Primary Education in Sri Lanka

An opening ceremony for the project of remolding of Bambarakele Tamil
School in Nuwara Eliya was held recently with presence of Korean
Ambassador, Choi Jong-Moon, Principal of Bambarakele Tamil School,KOICA
Sri Lanka office representative, Komathy, staff and volunteers, Korean
media team, engineers of Keangnam Construction Company, members of
Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and Zonal Education Office, and other
local residents.This school remodeling project has been conducted as
part of TV programme titled as ‘Dream of KOICA’, jointly funded by KOICA
and Munhwa Broadcasting Cooperation (MBC), one of a major media company
in Korea.
The TV programme aims not only to shed a light on the KOICA overseas
volunteerism and international development cooperation to Sri Lanka but
to introduce Sri Lanka’s culture and attractions to the Korean public.
Under this small-scale project, KOICA not only remodeled two main
classrooms, a play ground and other school facilities but also provided
new school furniture such as desks, chairs and cabinets, blackboards for
school and presented back packs for all school children in order to
equip the school with better education facilities and enable better
education services for the students.
Along with this project, to support the improvement of Sri Lanka
primary and secondary education, KOICA is carrying out school
reconstruction projects, one in Kilinochchi district with $ 5 million
budget scale, and the other in Ampara and Batticaloa districts with $ 2
million budget scale.
