One of the pioneers of Bubland, Manoj Manatunga |
I wonder what the world will be like in 10 years time when a group of
people create an entire country over the Internet, test launched just
recently and that is exactly what Bubland is: A country created over the
net.
“Bubland is a country created on the internet where we have such a
lot of features. It is a social country, it is not a social network.
There is citizenship in this country and when you become a citizen you
become a Bublander. Now we are Sri Lankans, so on in this website you
become a Bublander. It functions as a normal country and on this website
we need a newspaper so citizens can know what is going on in Bubland”.
The newspaper name is "Bub Today" said the pioneers of this new concept,
Manoj Manathunga and Migara Karunamuni.
Bubland like any other country will have elections and a president.
It operates as a country; as a sovereign nation. There will also be a
national anthem.
“Not only will we have a president, we will also have a parliament or
a senate for bubland in future as a kind of an e-government . We have
been creating some new games to play in bubland. So we are done with the
test launching and now we are going to release the entire website soon
with a grand launch” they said.
And now let us meet the rest of the innovative people at the fair!
Infotel 2011 did remarkably well with a huge crowd turnout during the
four days which commenced from December 2 to 5 at the Bandaranaike
Memorial International Conference Hall. The technology fair drew the
interest of everyone who attended with a display of gadgetry and
devices. Daily News visited the fair and chatted to the stall owners.
“Gestetner is a UK based company and it is an organised dealer for
Fujitsu laptops as well. So we are dealing here with copiers, colour
copiers plus Fujitsu laptops. In Sri lanka we are the number one partner
for Fujitsu. These are unique machines made in Japan. These are high
performance laptops for gaming and business solutions, normally we cater
for corporate sector such as Bank Of Ceylon, Sampath Bank, Central Bank
etc. Special thing is we are also the only dealer doing public PCs
because solution wise it is very helpful for the businessman because
they travel frequently so they need light weight with special features.
So we are introducing a new laptop mainly competitive to Mac, like
Apple. It is the only laptop that we have in Sri Lanka with 1.2kg and 14
inch category. It is really thin and we are the number one company for
copiers range. We have colour copiers to black and white copiers. We
have a good corporate base which is custom based. Fujitsu looks for
reliability and quality. They have a policy which is make sure that the
highest standards are maintained. Quality wise it is at the optimal
level. Fujitsu globally is it number one.” said Kasun Liyanage of the
Gestetner stall.
Head of Marketing Thushara Perera and CEO Mathiesha Perera of MAT
were two stall owners from MAT who also spoke to the Daily News. They
explained that they were heading towards the IT innovation. Their
product is an Interactive White Board , an extension of your computer.
Whatever you do in your computer, can be done in the White Board as
well. If you want to save it or later retrieve it, you can do all of
that .
It is an amazing product they have brought down. We are fortunate to
have a product like this in Sri Lanka, it helps all industries education
and corporate sector.
“These kind of products we need to bring it down to Sri Lanka
basically for us to be on par with the rest of the world. With this
product we are helping Sri Lanka to be on par with the rest of the
world. We are inviting everyone to come and experience this product and
to see how we can get Sri Lanka on the same page as the developing. We
are glad to introduce products like this to Sri Lanka” said Thushara and
Methiesha.
There were also representations from schools with their own stalls
with their own innovations. It was one of the best fairs to be held in
Colombo with the atmosphere buzzing with curiosity. Most of the halls
were packed with onlookers as young schools kids enthusiastically
described their technological know how. |
