Collective responsibility of all:
Nat. language policy implementation to LG’s - Minister Vasudeva
Steps will be taken to empower all local government authorities to
oversee the proper implementation of the national languages policy
within their districts, National Languages and Social Integration
Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said.
The minister said so while participating in a workshop on language
usage and the execution of a national language policy for local
government administration in Ratnapura.
The minister said Sri Lankans had to suffer immensely because of the
lack of respect and recognition for each others’ language, religion or
race in comparison to other developing countries.
He said that the President had put an end to the war and it was a
collective responsibility and duty of all to ensure that this kind of a
situation would not repeat.
The minister said that it was necessary to properly execute the
language usage and national languages policy to ensure that all races
receive equal respect and equal opportunity as a single Sri Lankan race
within a unified country.
Nanayakkara said that any Sri Lankan should have the right to have
his services carried out in one's respective mother tongue at any
governmental office.
He explained that it is their responsibility, as public
representatives to create a positive environment wherever there is a
lack of facilities and a suitable environment. |
