JEDB diversifies

The Janatha Estate Development Board (JEDB) has diversified and is building a large supermarket complex in Kurunegala. The institution will invest Rs 150 million. The JEDB which was labelled as a loss making and a written-off state institution has recorded profits and these profits were used for this investment.

The three-storeyed complex is expected to be ready next year and it is to be rented out to several banks and shops on long-term lease, a JEDB official said.

The JEDB is also looking at constructing eight cabanas in their estate in Kalawewa and is on the lookout for a partner for the project.
