Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa advised the Opposition in Parliament to
correct their flaws before complaining about others. The Speaker made
this observation yesterday in Parliament when UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake
attempted to make a statement on the incident of adjourning Parliament
on Thursday at 2.35 pm. Opposition members were not present in
Parliament to continue the Committee Stage debate on the appropriation
bill.
UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake stated that there were various reports in
the media in connection with adjourning of Parliament on Thursday,
before the scheduled time. “The government too had a responsibility,”
Ravi Karunanayake said.
At this stage, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa advised the Opposition to
admit to their flaws and correct themselves before they complain about
others.
The Speaker also said that the names of several members of the
Opposition were announced. He added none of them was present in the
House and Parliament was adjourned.
UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake attempted to make this statement during the
time for question for oral answers.
The Speaker also stated that it was not a time to speak of such
things when this particular time was allocated for questions and oral
answers.
