Heroin dealer held
A suspect who had sold heroin was arrested by the Panadura division
anti-corruption unit in the Panadura, Modarawila area. The person was
remanded until December 16 by Horana Magistrate, Mahinda Ranasinghe. The
suspect is a resident in the Panadura, Modarawila housing scheme.
Burgher Association celebrates Christmas
The annual Christmas get-together of the Burgher Association will be
held tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at the Dutch Burgher Union Hall, 114, Reid
Avenue, Colombo 4.
The evening's proceedings will include a sing-along of traditional
Christmas carols accompanied by a nativity play by children, gifts for
children by Santa, games and fun for children and adults.
Music will be provided by DJ Marlon.
Naval year-end get-together
The Sri Lanka Naval Association will celebrate the year end
get-together tomorrow from 9.30 am at the SLNS Gemunu New Band Training
Hall, Welisara.

Help restore her hearing
Fathima Rushda, three years and four months, has been diagnosed with
bilateral profound hearing loss and has been recommended by doctors to
undergo surgery at Madras ENT Research Foundation in Chennai, Tamil
Nadu.
The cost of the surgery is approximately Rs 4.2 million including
hospitalization.
Her father is a small trader who cannot afford the cost and therefore
appeals to donors and philanthropists to make contributions to Bank of
Ceylon Hulftsdorph branch under account holder S.Z. Hussain to A/C No.
8096897.
Help him
Soldier Ashok Jayalal, who retired after 14 years in service, under
went a kidney transplant on November 22. He needs money for drugs which
costs over Rs 50,000 a month. Jayalal appeals for financial assistance.

Christmas party
The Sri Lanka Housewives' Association (Parent Body) Colombo.
President and Executive Committee are organizing the annual Christmas
party on December 15 at the Public Library Auditorium from 2.00 pm. Don
Sherman will entertain the crowd.
Wimalasiri on Sharddhanjalee
The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Sinhala National Service will
presents composer, poet and journalist W K Sarath Wimalasiri over the
Shraddhanjalee programme today from noon to 12.45 pm.
He will make an analytical presentation of the songs composed, based
on various themes that come in Buddhist literature.
He will also present his views on lyrics, singing and music on topics
under discussion.

Free legal aid clinic
The Puttalam Community Centre has organized several programmes to
commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Centre for the Study of Human
Rights, University of Colombo.
A free legal aid clinic will be held at the Wanathawilluwa,
Bandaranayakapura Maha Vidyalaya today from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.
An awareness programme on laws for daily life and an art competition
for schoolchildren has been arranged.
Leader training workshop
The Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry jointly with the
Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Association and National Youth
Awards Authroity - Sri Lanka for the Asia Pacific Regional ALT 2011 have
organized the Asia Pacific Regional Awards Leader Training (ALT) from
December 9 to14.
The Asia Pacific Regional Awards Leaders Training Workshop will be
held on December 13 at Club Hotel Dolphin, Negombo.
The special workshop for the Gold Award Holder and those willing to
achieve the gold award programme under the 16 -24 age group, will be
held on December 14 from 8.00 a.m to 2.30 p.m at Royal Skills
Development Auditorium of the Royal College Union.
UN Human Rights Day
The UN Human Rights Day 2011 will be celebrated by Sarvodaya Legal
Services Movement on December 12 from 4pm to 6.30 pm at the Sri Lanka
Foundation Institute auditorium.
The 20th Kanchana Abhayapala annual human rights memorial lecture
will be delivered by Dr. Sunitha Krishnan, co-founder and chief
functionary of Prajawala.
Supramaniam dies
Daniel Supramaniam, father of former Thomian cricket captain and
Ruggerite Dayalan Supramaniam died in Australia on December 4. His
funeral will take place on December 12 (Monday) at Toronto Cemetery,
Araba Road, Toronto after a service at 10 am.
Christmas carols
The annual carol service of Royal College, Colombo will be held on
December 12 at 6 pm at the Navarangahala. The carol service is presented
by the College Catholic Student Union and the Student Christian
Movement. It will feature nearly 25 boys from all age groups. The
Christmas Message will be presented by Rev. Fr. Roshan Fernando.
The annual Christmas carols programme and family evening of St.
Benedict's College, Colombo titled, a Green Christmas, will be held on
December 20 at St. Lucia's Cathedral, Kotahena. The entrance procession
is at 6.45 pm. The programme is presented by the college choir, primary
choir, drama club and the western band with a guest performance by Choro
Benedicte. The family evening will be held at the College Quadrangle
from 8.30 pm.
