Sanghamitta Therani commemoration

The 2319th Sri Sanghamitta Therani Commemoration Ceremony jointly organized by the Buddhasasana, and Religious Affairs Ministry, Buddhist Affairs Department and the Lanka Jathika Silmatha Sangamaya will be held in Anuradhapura on December 10 and 11.

Highlights will include a procession carrying the statue of Sri Sanghamitta Therani which will leave Viharamahadevi Aramaya premises at Bandaranaike Mawatha at 3 pm on December 10 and reach the Ruwanweli Seya premises for an Ashrivada Buddha pooja pinkama in the evening.

This will be followed by the annual conference of Sil Mathas at the Sannipatha hall at Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya on December 11 at 10 am.

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne will be the chief guest. Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Deputy Minister M K A D S Gunawardena and several leading Buddhist prelates will also participate.
