Master plan to develop primary, secondary schools

The Education Ministry will draft a master plan to develop 5,000
primary schools and 1,000 secondary schools islandwide immediately.
The programme is to be implemented from next year, Education Ministry
sources said.
The implementation of school development programmes is aimed at
providing the best education for children to face challenges, the
sources said. The government has decided to prioritize the primary
school network programme and the construction of 1,000 secondary schools
aiming at a productive and quality education system.
The programme will be launched as a joint venture with foreign aid
and funds from the government.
Arrangements have already been made to receive Rs 2,500 million as
foreign aid.
The schools to be developed under this programme will be equipped
with infrastructure facilities, including fully fledged computer
laboratories with 50 computers, language laboratories, mathematical
centres, Nenasa distance education centres, aesthetic education units,
Advanced Level laboratories, vocational training centres and sports
facilitation centres, the sources said.
