First 'Car Boot Sale' on December 17
Sri Lanka's biggest "car boot sale" organized by the "81 Batch" of
Nalanda College will be held on December 17 from 8.30 am-5.00 pm behind
Arpico Show room Battaramulla.
"This would be the first of its kind event to be held in Sri Lanka
and we believe that the event would provide a novel experience for the
Sri Lankan consumers. The proceedings of the sale would be donated for
the development of Nalanda College," Nalanda College Old Boy's
Association Secretary Lt. Colonel Chandana Weerakoon told Daily News
Business.
A car boot sale refers to the selling of used, but no longer required
personal processions from a car's boot or trunk. "This is one of the
best ways to recycling useful but unwanted items in the country. Under
this system, there would be no need for the country to import new items
since used items are exchanged at the sale and this would be an
appropriate trade system that would prevent the draining out of a large
sum of local money to foreign countries," he said.
According to Weerakoon, governments in most countries are intervening
to promote this trade.
This year, the car boot sale will include special events such as
entertaining sports for children and musical programmes and participants
will be able to visit the fair free of charge. The organizers expect a
large number of buyers and sellers for this year's sale and are hoping
to hold the event islandwide in the future.
