Former boxing champ dies

Death occurred in Kandy on Tuesday of former St. Sylvester's College, Kandy boxing captain Annesly Soysa and his funeral will take place at the Mahaiyava General Cemetery Kandy at 4 p.m today.

Annesly Soysa was a top class boxer at St. Sylvester's College in the mid fifties and this school was famous for boxing at that time. He led his school to win the Stubbs Shield.

On leaving school he served in the forces in England and also Australia before returning to his motherland to spend the days after retirement.

He took up residence at the Victoria Golf Course Complex and also took to golf. He was 74 years at the time of his death.
