Dayasritha condemns Ranil’s statement

State Resources and Enterprise Development Minister Dayasritha Tissera severely condemned an alleged statement made by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament recently, alluding to the shawl (satakaya) worn by President Mahinda Rajspaksa.

The Opposition Leader is alleged to have stated that Satakawadaya should be totally eradicated from this country.

Minister Tissera in a statement said on behalf of the patriotic people, he totally condemned this alleged statement of the Opposition Leader. Minister Tissera’s statement added that even though Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramesinghe was unaware of the shawl (Satakaya) leaders wearing the national dress who ruled this country were fully aware that it was a main symbol of nationalism.

President Rajspaksa is the only leader who made it more meaningful by wearing Kurahan Satakaya (shawl) to display the country’s nationalism and the identity fearlessly before the international community.

“People following in his footsteps have rallied round him enmasse causing a death blow on forces enslaved to Europe making them impatient.

“When the secret conspiracies hatched by these forces in league with international forces to undermine Sri Lanka’s identity miserably failed, they seem to have now come into the open.

“Certain sectors of the UNP had always tried to undermine Sri Lanka’s identity in a surreptitious manner.

“The pertinent question now is whether or not the recent statement is an open betrayal of the people,” Tissera said.
