A ceremony to present medals to the civil staff of the Army who had assisted during the humanitarian operation was held at the Army Headquarters under the patronage of Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya yesterday. Around 100 medals were presented. The Uthuru Manusheeya Meheyuma Padakkama and Negenahira Manusheeya Meheyuma Padakkama were awarded to 1,780 heroes on April 28 and the first medals were presented by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to several personnel of the three forces and the Police at Temple Trees in December 2010. The 100 Army Civil Work Force personnel who were awarded medals yesterday represent all regiments in the Sri Lanka Army. Picture by Thushara Fernando


Over Rs 380 m under Police rewards scheme this year

Police personnel who had rendered exceptional service in helping the Police Department maintain law and order in the country have received over Rs 380 million as cash rewards from the Department this year.
