Samudradevi Music Day

The year end “Music Day” celebrations of Samudradevi Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda will be held at the school’s Vasantha Ranasinghe hall on December 7 at 8.30 am.

Music director Rohana Weerasinghe will be the chief guest.

Senior lecturer Rashmi Sangeetha and vocalist Niranjala Sarojini will be the guests of honour.

The event has been organized according to a concept of Principal W S Ranasinghe.


Holiday camp at Russian Centre

A kids holiday camp organized by the Cultural Section of the Russian Embassy will be held at the Russian Centre, Colombo from December 12 to 21 from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm.

The camp is held to develop skills of children and to spend their holiday usefully and happily.

An art workshop, story telling, hand work, computer studies, games, internet, e-mail, free style dancing, chess coaching camps, library reading, film shows, out door games and drama workshops are included in the programme.

Forum for CEOs, corporate heads

The Sri Lanka Foundation jointly with Strategic Enterprise Management Agency and Price Waterhouse Coopers India will hold a forum for local CEO and Corporate Heads on Indian business thinking in international context and the way forward for Sri Lankan business fraternity to arrange joint ventures and alliances.

The forum will be held on December 8 at 6.30pm at the SLF auditorium. The guest speakers will be Anand Dikshit and Manish B Agrawal, executive directors and partners of Price Waterhouse Coopers India.


HIV prevention seminar

A seminar on prevention of HIV/AIDS and drugs abuse organized by Lions Clubs International District 306 A2 will be held today at Miami Apparel (Pvt) Ltd, Madurakettiya, Moneragala.


Islamic lecture

A two day Islamic lecture on ‘Eternal Bond’ will be delivered by Ash-Sheikh Mufthi Yoosuf Haniffa (Abu Umar) immediately after Magrib prayers on December 5 at Majma-ul-Kahirath Masjid, Nimal Road, Colombo 4 and on December 6 at the Bambalapitiya Jummah Masjid, Colombo 4.

The lectures are organized by the Board of Trustees of mosques in conjunction with Zeylan Edu Consultants.


Isipathana colours night

The annual colours night of Isipathana College, Colombo 5 will be held on December 5 at 6 pm at Navarangahala, Royal College, Colombo 7.

A total of 170 students will receive College colours and merit awards.


Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries

A motorcyclist was injured and admitted to the Gampaha hospital when his motorcycle plying on the Colombo-Kandy road crashed into the rear of a lorry proceeding on the same direction ahead of him on Thursday morning.

He later succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as Pattividanelage Don Albert Parichchividana of Mahipalagoda, Yakkala.

Gampaha Police is investigating.


Centre for Performing Arts celebrates 46th anniversary

The Centre for Performing Arts celebrates its 46th anniversary today at their 18 centres islandwide. To mark the occasion inter religious ceremonies will be held in every CP Arts centre together with alms-givings, tree planting and blood donation campaigns.

A national programme will be held at Rambaikulam St. Anthony's Centre, Vavuniya to mark this 46th anniversary. Members and coordinators of all 18 CP Arts Centres will participate in this National event.

In the event, there will be several discussions on past programmes and future of the CP Arts programmes and number of stage programmes such as Kandyan dance, Bharatham and Folk dance etc will be held.


Arrested for transporting refuse tea

A stock of refuse tea along with two suspects who were transporting it were taken into custody by Meepilimana STF officers on Wednesday at Magastota in Nuwara Eliya police area. Police also seized the lorry they were transporting the 570 sacks of refuse tea. The suspects and the goods were handed over to Nuwara Eliya police for further investigations.
