Rohana Chapter Mahanayaka Most Ven Attudawe Sri Rahula passes away

Chancellor Ruhuna University and Viharadhipathi Sri Subhadraramaya Dodampahala Dickwella Most Ven Attudawe Sri Rahula Mahanayaka Thera of the Rohana Chapter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya passed away on Tuesday at the Dickwella District Hospital.

He was 92. The Mahanayaka Thera’s remains are lying at the Sri Subhadraramaya, Hiriketiya Dodampahala for the public to pay respects. After religious rites performed at the temple on December 3 morning the remains will be taken to the Ruhuna University premises where it will Lie-in-State from noon to 12.30 pm.

The remains will then be taken to the Uposathagaraya at Pigeon Island, Matara to enable the public including the Maha Sangha to pay respects from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Thereafter, the prelate’s body will be handed over to the Ruhuna University Medical Faculty at Karapitiya in Galle today at 5 pm in deference to the prelate’s last wishes, said Ven Omare Kassapa Thera, Lekakhadhikari of the Sri Rohana Chapter Sangha Sabha.

Born on December 19, 1919 at Attudawa South, Most Ven Rahula Mahanayaka Thera was a pious and erudite member who had rendered an invaluable service towards a religious and social reawakening in the country.

A well-known author he has over 60 literary works to his credit.
