No damage to power plant

There has been no damage to the Norochcholai coal power plant, following a fire which broke out at a coal grinding mill, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) sources said yesterday.

There are five coal grinding mills at the Lakwijaya power plant. One was affected by the fire because of its high temperature. Project officers had taken measures to deactivate the operations of the power plant, the sources said.

There is no damage to the power plant or to its power generating system, they said.

All measures have been taken to repair the affected coal grinding mill. The power generating activities are back to normal, the CEB added.
