Rohan Daulagala is a multi-faceted sportsman though well known in the
field of athletics, in the schools association, also represented in the
public schools athletics meets with distinction, played 2nd XV rugby for
the school and was a overhaul junior cricketer, a fine Cadet who ended
up the schools sergeant.
He joined the school in 1975 and read up to 1988, soon after leaving
school he joined the Police Special Task force as an Officer and served
the elite forces from 1988 to 1995 in the most troubled districts in the
North and East with courage, determination and commitment.
While at the Police STF played for the team as a lock forward and
flanker, taking part in the inter district Police Department rugby
tournaments as one of the best forwards.
After leaving Police STF Rohan joined "MAS" Holding PLC Ltd and rose
up to become one of their General Managers today, in one their best
Garment Factories in the Kandy district, he was the first rugby captain
for the "MAS" Holding rugby team in the Mercantile Rugby Sevens
tournament, and played for the team for a few years in the Mercantile
Rugby Sevens.
His team won this years Mercantile 7's. He was responsible in
organizing the Indo/Sri Lanka boxing meet at the MAS sports complex at
Pallekelle with the boxing king maker Dayan Gomes.
In Kandy, he was invited by the Kandy Sports Club to seek membership
and thereafter, served in the Executive Committee for well over a
decade, holding vital posts in the committee towards the development and
restructuring the club to what it is now the local "Rugby Champions" in
Sri Lanka.
During the period the Kandy Sports club hosted the "Singer SriLankan
Airlines Rugby Sevens" (International) a tournament recognized by the
International Rugby Board as the "Asian Region Satellite Sevens Series"
from 2005 to 2008 Rohan was in charge of the entire security of the
tournament, coordinating with the Sri Lanka Police and ensuring the
safety of the International teams and Official during the height of the
LTTE terror violence.
His services were commended by the National Security and the Asian
Rugby Football Union for the organization of safety to all.
While at Kandy Sports Club he actively supported the rugby
development of his Alma Mater by introducing school leavers to the Club
and today most of players representing the club is from St. Anthony's
College. In 2006/2007 with the Rugby Wing President C.P.P. Raj rugby at
the school reached great heights to which Rohan was a great contributor.
Besides, it must be always remembered that for rugby to thrive and
reach heights to what it is now at St. Anthony's is the inspiration and
motivation of the rugby legend Priyantha Ekanayake the only rugby player
in Sri Lanka who very successfully Captained the National team at four
consecutive Asiad's, the first SLRFU President from his College, further
he continues his invaluable services towards St. Anthony's College,
Katugastota rugby with wide experience and contacts in the corporate
sector. Rohan took over the Rugby Wing as President in 2008 and
continues the good work done by his predecessors taking the rugby wing
to the next level.
With this appointment he will have a workload on a regular basis as
SACK - OBA is considered one of the most powerful organizations in Sri
Lanka with a huge membership here and overseas.
St. Anthony's College, Katugastota and the OBA will always remember
him in his role not only as an Old Boy, Senior Executive Officer, and in
the field of sports, but in the battle field leading the elite STF in
the East.
We wish him well in all his future endeavors to his Alma mater and
Sri Lanka at large.
