Cricket Interim Committee dissolved
The Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage has dissolved the
Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket from November 15, 2011. It was
appointed on July 1, 2011. This decision was taken as per the powers
vested in the Minister of Sports under the 1973 Sports Act 25, Articles
32, 33 and 34.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Udaya Ranjith Seneviratne
has been appointed as the competent authority to temporarily overlook
matters with regard to Sri Lanka Cricket with effect from yesterday. The
Ministry of Sports states that the Minister of Sports has appointed the
secretary with effect from November 15, 2011 until further notice.
Interim committees appointed by the government have run cricket in
Sri Lanka for the last seven years.
In July, Aluthgamage dissolved the committee headed by former player
Somachandra de Silva following allegations of mismanagement and
corruption, and replaced it with a panel headed by Upali Dharmadasa.
The ministry has promised it would abide by a new ICC directive
requiring all national boards to be elected independently by June 2012.
