Seven nabbed with illegally felled timber

STF personnel attached to the Kanthale camp took into custody seven suspects with a stock of illegally felled timber in the Kannalkadu forest reserve in Kanthale on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, police also seized 14 bullocks, seven carts and tools they used to fell a stock of 16 logs.

Police said the consignment is valued at Rs 917,000. The suspects are residents of Kinniya. The timber were handed over to the Trincomalee Forest Office. Meanwhile, more illegally felled timber was seized by Anuradhapura STF when they arrested three suspects while they were cutting teak trees in Niraviya Teak Plantation yesterday. Police seized 39 teak logs valued at Rs 200,000 and tools. Anuradhapura police are investigating.
