'Indigenous food consumption should be promoted'

Sri Lankans need to develop the habit of consuming indigenous food and herbs more often, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayaka said.

He was participating at the opening ceremony of the Hela Osu Sala at Sethsiripaya. Indigenous Medicine Ministry will provide the service of a professional Ayurvedic Doctor for the Sethsiripaya Ayurvedic Medicine Centre which was opened recently, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake said.

"Today a majority in the country has health problems due to poor food habits. The proper time has come to correct this trend," he said.

This action has been taken to make the government sector aware of the programme of promoting indigenous medicine and nutritional food. The programme is being implemented under the Indigenous Medicine Ministry, Ayurvedic Corporation Chairman Somaweera Chandrasiri said.
