Gold smuggled from Lanka seized

Over 150 gold biscuits worth Rs 4.5 crore allegedly smuggled from Sri Lanka were seized from a car in Nagapattinam district and two persons arrested in this connection, the police said. Suspects before identification parade

Colombo Additional Magistrate Deepthi Kodituwakku yesterday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to produce 10 suspects, including an Inspector of Police and nine Police Constables, before an identification parade on Monday.

Arms recovered

A joint four hour search operation conducted by the Puttalam Police and the STF on Thursday helped recover a haul of illegal arms and ammunition and illicit meat and other items. Nine suspects were arrested in this connection. The Police said 19 households came under inspection during this operation conducted by 87 police officers and 62 STF personnel.
