Suspects before identification parade

Colombo Additional Magistrate Deepthi Kodituwakku yesterday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to produce 10 suspects, including an Inspector of Police and nine Police Constables, before an identification parade on Monday.

The CID took the 10 suspects into custody in connection with the killing of Gamini Thushara of Colombo on September 7, 2011 and remanded pending the completion of investigations.

When the case was called, before Additional Magistrate Deepthi Kodituwakku yesterday Attorneys Anura Meddegoda and Gamini Perera moved court to grant time for their clients to make confessions before the magistrate.

Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne who appeared for eight suspects including the Inspector of Police, moved court to postpone the identification parade in view of the application by the two defence counsel who moved court that their clients will make two confessions before the magistrate on the next date.

After the submissions by the defence counsel and the CID, the magistrate put off the case for November 14.

CID ASP Palitha Panamaldeniya and Chief Inspector Tissera appeared for the prosecution.
