Formulation of National Physical Plan completed
The formulation of the National Physical Plan relating to the
country's physical development upto 2030 has been completed. It will be
unveiled by President Mahinda Rajapaksa shortly to educate the people
about it said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
He said the National Physical Plan planned upto 2030 included many
feature relating to physical development including cities, highways,
airports, ports,
Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara told the Daily News yesterday. He said
that a special Act to facilitate this move will be presented to
Parliament by the Defence Ministry during the first week of November. He
said that state institutions and lands given to private companies and
individuals will be taken over if those parties have failed to use or
manage them effectively.
He noted that taking over these lands and institutions will help save
millions of money for the government. He observed that many plantation
lands given to private companies and individuals have gone to ruin and
have become barren since those have not been cultivated for long years.
He said that the government's aim from this move is to ensure
efficient use and management of state resources for the benefit of the
country.
