Sri Lanka thwart Pakistan

Sri Lanka put on an improved batting display in their second innings as they began to eat into a big Pakistan lead in the second Test at Dubai Stadium here on Friday. Sri Lanka, who conceded a big 164-run lead in the first innings, moved to 88-1 at stumps on the third day on a pitch that is taking spin and keeping low, which sets up an intriguing last two days.

Five new meet records set up

The 23rd National Youth Sports Festival first day ended with five new meet records in under 20 boys’ and over 20 men’s long jump, men’s over 20 high jump, girls’ 800 metres under 20, and 200 metres in the same age category.

Umesh leads Sri Lanka under 23 team

Umesh Karunaratne will lead the Sri Lanka under 23 team in the SAARC Twenty20 Tournament which will be worked off in the Maldives from October 31 to November 6, 2011. Sri Lanka has been drawn into group two along with India, Pakistan and Nepal.
