Members of the Drama, Theatre and Image Arts Unit of the Kelaniya
University presented a photography exhibition and short film festival at
the university indoor sports complex recently.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony of the event was Prof Sarath
Amunugama while the guests of honours were Dr Malani Fonseka,
Sathischandra Edirisinghe, Ravindra Guruge and P A Kiriwandeniya.
Ten undergraduates showcased their creations ranging from photographs
to short films at the event.
Initiated in 1997, Upanetha was held for the 14th time this year. It
showcases the artistic flair of the students and relates that they are
not only limited to their academic studies. Starting off as a
photographic exhibition, Upanetha had evolved through the years and now
had spread its wings to areas like image arts.
A specialty about this year’s event is that it includes 3D
photographs. This id the first time that 3D images had been included in
a local exhibition. These exhibits are creations by Dhanushka Surendra
Kahandawaarachchi. An old boy of Gampaha Bandaranayake College,
Dhanushka had been fascinated the areas of electronic and computer
science from a young age. His interests and commitments to the subject
led him to invent a software for editing 3D photography and an
ultra-violet camera. |
