Sri Lankan karate team led by Shihan P Muthukumarana is scheduled to
leave for Tokyo on October 22, 2011 to participate in the 10th World
Open Karate Championship.

First ever Open World Karate Championship was organized by Master
Oyama by challenging the Martial Art World in the year 1975, a team led
by Sri Lanka’s first Karate Instructor Sensel D A Weligama took part in
this event.
The Open World Karate Championship will be held after four years.
The 10th Championship will be held this year as a tribute to Sosai
Mas. Oyama. 128 men’s fighters and 32 women’s fighters from 79 countries
will participate at this year’s Open World Karate Championship. World
famous Cinema Actor Dolph Lungrem from Europe, who is a student of Mas.
Oyama will perform Karate demonstration with breaking techniques and
self defence at the Tournament stage, Shihan Muthukumarana said.
Chanuka Sooriyapperuma, fighter, will represent Sri Lanka, Miss Shamy
de Zoysa will represent Asia at this Mega event.
Sri Lankas Shihan Piyaratne Muthukumarana will be a judge at this
tournament with Wasantha Zoysa as an Assistant Judge.
Vijitha Purasinghe, Vice President, N Karunaratne Branch President,
Shihan Muthukumarana, Chief Instructor, A M Ratnayake, National
Organizer Sri Lanka Branch Coordinating Secretary to the President and K
P N Silva, Vice President, H R R Perera, Extra Fighter, Shammy S de
Zoysa, women fighter, Wasantha Zoysa, Gunness record holder will also
participate at the Championship.
