Jaffna BOI projects top US $ 10 m
With permanent peace and in the wake of investor friendly
backdrop the Northern Province is turning out to be an investment
paradise. Both small and high end entrepreneurs are investing in the
fields of apparel, tourism, health, power sector, fishery and
others.
The Colombo and the Magam Ruhunupura Mahinda
Rajapaksa Port in Hambantota will attract over US $ five billion
investments through the private sector by 2015. Over US $ three
billion has been invested in the port sector through funds from
Asian Development Bank, People’s Republic of China, India, Denmark
and Japan. “Other than this, private sector organizations from
various countries has committed to invest total of US$ 2.2 billion
in areas of manufacturing, assembling, warehousing, handling and
many more sectors,” said Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Dr
Priyath B Wickrama.
Market opened for the week on negative note
yesterday with both benchmark indices recording substantial losses.
ASI lost 92.40 index points (-1.41%) to close at 6,557.51 while more
sensitive MPI lost 66.94 index points (-1.14%) to close at 5,811.39.

reason for the L’ Officiel magazine to choose Sigiriya
as the photo shoot location is its fame and ancient
value and they want to create an international photo
shoot with the beautiful background in Sigiriya.

Minister Basil opens
Madhu housing scheme : People’s Bank Golden Jubilee
housing scheme was opened last week in Madhu with
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa
participating as chief guest. This new housing scheme
has been built in Madhu for the benefit of civilians and
fifty families were provided houses with all basic
facilities including furniture as well. The housing
scheme includes water facilities, electricity and
internal road network. The cost for this project
including potable water and other infrastructure
facilities is Rs 55 million. The total cost of the
project was borne by the People’s Bank. Senior Minister
Milroy Fernando, Resettlement Minister Gunarathna
Weerakoon, Industries and Commerce Minister Rishad
Badhiudeen, Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri
and People’s Bank Chairman W. Karunajeewa also
